My first posting.
I'm Javadecker, Java = from drinking heroic quantities of coffee, decker = well from reading to much William Gibson I guess.
Here's an uncharacteristically optimistic beginning...
I love the internet for it's potential, for the theory of it. A way for anyone to instantly communicate to anyone else who will take the time to read or look. Writing on-line like this is new to me so I'm quite happy about giving it a chance. In these days of high gas prices, heavy traffic, bad drivers, and general misery; it's a good thing to delve into a hobby one can do from the comfort of one's own home.
I wish I had the enthusiasm I had when I was younger. When I had things to say. Back then I believed in causes, movements, etc. Now that the means to freely (free in every sense - aside from the necessity of a PC) to light a message up in neon for all to see has arrived, I find I just don't care anymore. What this journal will be for me will be a place to practice my writing. Having not had to write anything other than customer info at work and the odd birthday wishes, I've found my skills in written communication have slipped. This cannot be allowed. A rigorous workout routine must be implemented to remedy this atrophy.
The journal will give me a reason to bring my writing skill back to speed, to pay attention to things around me, to carry my camera so as to document anything interesting that I may see (here? in suburbia? unlikely but one must try). I think it's putting in a little effort to better myself.
